When my dad started Jag back in 1986, he never intended for it to become a family business. He never envisioned a second generation, or creating something to pass down. He just wanted to create a better work-life balance for himself and his young family. I was three at the time; my little brother was a baby. I grew up watching my dad build his business. He’d go to work and come home, like most other working parents. But he’d also take the day off work to chaperone a field trip for school. Or leave early to go to theater practice with us (back in our family theater days; if you never got to see Jeff perform on stage, you really missed out). On the flip side, I also remember him stepping out of line at Disneyland to make a phone call for work. Or going back to his computer after dinner some nights. It was a juggling act, but as his kid, I just saw him creating a really good life for me and my brother and our mom.
The years went on. I grew up, as kids tend to do. I went to college & started my own career, working behind the scenes in local TV news. I loved it, until I didn’t and started thinking about what the next steps of my career would look like. At the same time, my dad had started feeling the not-too-distant call of retirement – and found himself facing the puzzle of what to do with this business he’d built from the ground-up when he was ready to retire.
It felt sort of serendipitous that we both found ourselves puzzling over the next stages of our working lives at the same time. And that’s when the plan for Jag 2.0 was essentially born. My new career would also be his retirement plan. He had a plan for the company’s future, and I had a plan for a career that would allow me to control my work-life balance, and provide a good life for my own family.
It feels surreal to finally be here on the cusp of that plan coming to fruition. 2026 marks 40 years in business for Jag, and it also marks the year Jeff officially retires.
A lot has changed in the last 40 years, but the core values that my dad built his business on remain the same. That’s the true legacy he’s passed onto me. To act as true partners to our customers; to make their jobs easier by offering peace of mind when they hand over their projects to our keeping.
Whether you’ve been here from day one, or just last week – thank you for being a part of our journey. We’re so glad you’re here alongside us.
Cheers,
Sara
